The SEO Treadmill: Why You Need to Keep Running (Or Faceplant!)

danger of stopping SEO when it's actually working for you.

Let's talk about SEO. Specifically, the danger of stopping SEO when it's actually working for you.

We recently analyzed the organic traffic data for one of our clients in the travel industry here in Singapore. Throughout 2023, their SEO performance was stellar (check out the chart!). We were all pretty happy with the results.

But then, they decided to hit the pause button on their SEO efforts in 2024.

The result? Their traffic took a nosedive.

Sadly, this isn't unusual. We see this happen all the time. Businesses start seeing great results from SEO, then they get complacent and figure they can coast.

Here's the thing: SEO is like a treadmill. You need to keep running to stay in place. As soon as you stop, you start falling behind.

Why hitting the "stop" button on SEO is a bad idea (if it's profitable):

  • The Algorithm Never Sleeps: Search engines love fresh content and active websites. When you stop updating and optimizing, you become stale (and invisible).

  • Competition is Fierce: Your competitors are constantly working on their SEO. If you stop, they'll happily snatch your rankings.

  • Climbing Back Up is Tough: Recovering from a drop in rankings is way harder (and more expensive) than maintaining them.

The Bottom Line: ROI

We understand that you need to see a return on your SEO investment. That's why tracking your results is crucial.

  • Is your organic traffic converting into leads and sales?

  • Are you acquiring customers at a reasonable cost through SEO?

If the answer is yes (and it almost always is!), then stopping SEO is like throwing money out the window.
